Don’t Get Ripped Off On Your Next New Orleans Home Improvement

May 17, 2009 · Filed Under Plumbing

Employing quality tradesmen for bathroom and kitchen Remodeling projects in New Orleans is not as easy as it might sound. With so many friendly and easy going experts out there, there’s no reason for this to be the case. Check out these tips to save you some stress.

1. Don’t Be A Sucker!
Make sure you research your potential contractors thoroughly. A seemingly easy job can turn into a major headache if you hire someone less than reputable. Be certain that the tradesman has excellent references that can actually be verified. Any contractor that is worth being in the business at all should only be too happy to let their references speak for themselves.

2. Ooooh Take The Money and Run!
How long has your prospective contractor been in business? Did he just get fired for poor performance from his previous employer and as a result has started his own company?
Look for someone who has been in business for a while. Cream rises to the top! The New Orleans home improvement scene has a way of weeding out those who aren’t up to scratch. A company with twenty plus years experience in the New Orleans home improvement industry is going to be a much safer bet than someone just starting out.

3. Please & Thank You
This may sound a little cliche, but contractors who are polite and courteous on the phone are generally the same guys who show up on time and leave your house neat and tidy. Too often we dismiss the “gruffness” of a contractor as just part of the job, and yet then complain when he/she walks mud all over the white carpet. Use your head, get reliable New Orleans remodeling. And remember, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…

So in closing, take your time, plan ahead and don’t be afraid to ask some tough questions. It’s better to be assertive now, than to be staring in the dark at a half completed wall, with 6 inches of water at your feet. Trust me I’ve been there!
