Helpful Hints to Finding the Perfect Helpful plumbing company

November 19, 2009 · Filed Under Plumbing

We all know that hiring a plumber can be stressful, but doing your research before your emergency erupts will save you both time and money. Go to the internet to find local plumbers in your area. Now that you have your list of plumbers, the work begins.

Interview Plumbing Companies

The first thing you need to do is to contact the plumbers on your list and basically interview them. Find out all you can about their company, how long they’ve been in business, are “live” people there instead of an answering machine, do they have 24 hr service and emergency service? The more you know, the better you will feel.

Check Their References

Even though you may have heard their company name around town, you really don’t know if people are talking about them in a good or a bad way. If you know people that have used them, talk with them. Ask questions – did they show up when they said they would be? Was their work satisfactory and clean? Did they have to come back and rework the problem? f you can’t find people that have used them, then ask for 3 references references. Most places will give you the good customers as references, but at least it’s a start. Also check with the Better Business Bureau, to see if there have been any complaints filed against them.

Price and Plumbing Supplies

If you have a minor plumbing problem, get an estimate from at least 2 different companies. But just keep in mind that the lowest bid is not always the best way to go. Also, get a price on supplies including brand and model.  It is usually best to have them supply the parts, to make sure that they are the correct ones. Even though you may think the new faucet you just bought will fit, there may be a part that needed to be bought separately that you knew nothing about. Now he has to take time out to run out and get the piece if he doesn’t have it in his truck. Remember, time is money.

Written Quote

Before any work is done, make sure you have a written quote. If you need work, have your plumber give you a second written quote before he starts work. Always make sure the quote is signed before the start of any and all jobs. Be sure that their paperwork has the company’s entire information on it, including name, address, phone number, date, time started and finished, plumber’s full name, and license number. This information will be helpful if you need them to come back and re-fix the problem correctly.

So remember, before hiring, research your plumber. Once you are satisfied with your choice, keep their number close to your phone. In the event of a plumbing emergency you will be ready.
