Is Drinking Mineral Water Healthy or Not?

September 18, 2009 · Filed Under Water Purification System

Nowadays it seems as though people are for ever asking whether or not mineral water is healthy for you. Let’s face it; if you’ve ever paid attention to any supermarket pamphlets then you’ve no doubt seen what a huge range of mineral water is available, so I think it’s safe to assume that mineral water is a good thing.

What do we mean by the term mineral water? Many people think that this water is derived only from an underground source. But you should know that mineral water can be manufactured or it can come from nature. It contains minerals or other liquefied substances to change its taste or to give it therapeutic benefits.

For the most part, these minerals are present in the form of chlorides, phosphates, carbonates, iron, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. It is these minerals which give the water it’s unique taste, and this of course is largely responsible for the massive advertising of mineral water. As you’ve no doubt already noticed, many mineral water advertisements have slogans such as, “direct from nature” and “wholesome and healthy”.

In order to fully understand the benefits of mineral water, you should ideally have an understanding as to what the human body requires in terms of minerals. For example, while Iron provides you with energy and helps you to avoid becoming anemic, calcium on the other hand is crucial for the development of strong bones. Likewise, potassium and sodium work hand in hand in order to maintain the body’s water balance, while sodium also helps to regulate the body’s blood balance.

The bottom line is; the human body relies heavily on being supplied with certain minerals and if it doesn’t get the chemical elements it requires, either from food or from water, you stand a chance of developing a heart condition. When one considers that according to studies carried out by the American Heart Association, one in three people suffer from a heart condition, it seems obvious that it’s vitally important to provide out bodies with the necessary minerals

It simply cannot be stressed enough just how important it is to ensure that you supply your body with an adequate amount of minerals, but at the same time, we cannot overlook the fact that much of the water which is available to us is of a very poor quality. Because of concerns regarding contamination from chemicals, lead, and chlorine, people are increasingly relying on in-home purification systems in order to ensure that the water they drink is pure. Of course, in order for your water to be healthy for you, you need to opt for a system which doesn’t remove all the essential minerals during the purification process.

A quick overview of the systems that filter water. One is called reverse osmosis and another is distillation. These have been promoted as ways to remove unwanted chemicals and other substances, however the resulting product is demineralized water. This is touted as natural mineral water h20, but it’s really water that has had the essential minerals removed, which in the long term could lead to health problems.

Interestingly enough, there are nowadays a variety of solids which have been dissolved and which can be added to your mineral water in order to make it healthy. Of course, it only stands to reason that such substances are extremely beneficial with regards to maintaining your body in good health. Now that you’re familiar with the disadvantages of most commercially produced mineral water, you can focus on a good filtration system which is capable of removing undesirable chemicals while at the same time allowing you to keep those which are beneficial.
